When I installed XP Home, I listed myself and my wife as users. Because booting up in this miscarriage of an OS is so torturously slow, I thought I could save some time by eliminating my wife as a separate user (we share all of our files anyway), and possibly avoid the welcome screen altogether. Unfortunately, eliminating her as a user also eliminated her e-mail account, so I did a quick reversal, and am back where I started.

Can anybody tell me if this can be done, and how?

All her stuff is stored in c:\documents and settings\her username
Just backup everything there (copy it somewhere else), and then remove her account.
If you wish to save her address book and emails (in Outhouse Express), then Log in to her account, and export both.
Delete the account, add her as a second account under your login in OE, then import her emails and addy book.

What might be a better idea. Or a suggestion. ( your call ) And a solution to OE problems.

Get Eudora. Put it on a partition OTHER THAN C: Set up once for yourself. Copy the full folder to a folder of another name. Within that folder edit 3-4 .INI files to reflect that folder.

Then set it up as your Wifes account. Setup all addresses as Eudora Nicknames. ( in both accounts )

Then my Friend you have and e-mail system that DOES NOT rely on OE to run. Windows itself can be un-installed and re-installed but it does not effect Eudora. You * might * have to re-install one of the accounts ( over itself ) but that is it.

I have had Eudora for years. Wiped out and re-installed Windows several times ( different version also ) and have not lost a bit of e-mail, addresses or anything.

And BTW. B4 U ask. I had Eudora available immediately as soon as I got XP installed. XP is gone but Eudora is not.

Splendid idea! Get Eudora or Pegasus, and uninstall/delete Outhouse Express forever!

    Incredimail

Try Incredimail also. Excellent email program, can access Hotmail and MSN and one can export the settings to a "new" computer if necessary. And if like "fancy" emails and sound all is included...

    Cheers!

If you really want to make everyone you send an email to mad at you, go get Incredimail.
Whenever you send a message, it tacks on an advertisment to the bottom of your email. Older versions didn't do this, but updated ones do.
If you want me (and plenty of others) to blacklist you in their email client, go ahead and get Incredimail.
You can use huge .jpg's as stationary, you can use fancy fonts and colors in your sig, you can send and recieve sound bytes with the email, sure you can do even more to use up excess bandwidth and really peeve off anyone on dial-up.

You can speed up the "torturously slow" bootup time by going to Black Viper's site and using the list there to shut down the unnecessary services running in the background.

It's a little tedious but well worth the effort.

No matter which E-Mail you use.

Just make sure the your Anti-Virus will and is set to check it. Both in an out refered.

Especially if you do use MSN or Hotmail.

I used Hotmail for awhile and all it did for me was recieve Tons of TRASH and Virus laiden E-mail DAILY.

    I never used MSN.

But Eudora and Calypso both were handled very nicely by Norton AV.

I also use MailWasher to preview e-mail. It checks mail right on the server. it WILL NOT download mail. That keeps a lot of trash out of my Eudora mail box as I can delete it before running my normal e-mail program.

Eudora is ( and I believe Calypso is also ) a pretty much standalone e-mail. All they need is some version of Windows to run.

I definintly recomend using the Black Viper clean-up of your "SERVICES" http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

PRINT out the whole list of services to modify and then take your time going through--it's really self explanatory and once you do about 5 changes it get really easy.

There is another site which paralles Black Viper called--Windows XP Services Tweak Guide--if you print that guide also and compare it to Black Viper you will notice a few different changes that you can choose to do or not.
But once you have done these changes you should notice a huge difference in boot up time.
I am running a Dell 2.4 with WIN XP PRO and I can go from complete shutdown--push the button and be ready to do anything in 35 seconds.
It's well worth the effort--I did it for a friend of mine and he runs the XP Home Edition and it greatly improved his performance to.
