Greetings all, this is my first post and I'm sorry to say it is problem related. A friend recommended this site and suggested the participants might be able to decifer my mail glich. I'll try to keep it short.

I recently tried to mail myself a 7.3 meg video from one of my computers to another with unsatisfactory results. The attachment did not stay attached when I hit send so I deleted that attempt and tried again. The second attempt also failed so I deleted this attempt too...I think. The delete button locked up the screen on the second try and the only way to regain controll of my computer was (and still is) ctrl-alt-del. The glich shows up using any form of "delete" (tool bar, right click, or drag to waste).

I can still receive and send mail and operate other OE functions without problems. Unfortunately this took place on my computer with WIN98 v6.0 and no restore function, unlike my ME based second unit. All 3 of my computers access the net via cable.

Any help would be appreciated, the trash mail is really stacking up.

    Thanks!

7.3 meg I hope you're on cable and not dialup. Lots of ISPs limit size of files to be emailed. Repair IE via the add/remove programs(repairs OE at the same time) Post back good or bad.

If aleekat's suggestion doesn't work, try deleting the deleted items.dbx using windows explorer. Before you do this, in OE, move any messages that you may want to keep out of it to another folder (if you have access to it)

To add to Zander's suggestion, have OE closed when deleting the "deleted" folder. OE will regenerate the folder when opening OE again..

The few times I have seen this Safe Modde allowed normal emptying of the Deleted files bin.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately my scheduled 12 hour day exceeded 16 and I have little patience tonight for computer repairs. Going to quit while ahead.

Aleekat...I attempted you fix and made it through without any hitches, but that did not get my delete function restored. While in the add/remove/repair area I tried to uninstall the IE 5.0 to 6.0 upgrade so I could reload from my original 5.0 disc. Bad idea, evidently that is illegal and it was only too happy to tell me so.

As a reminder of my efforts, I now get the following:

MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in
    module DIRECTDB.DLL at 017f:00fb749d.

OE generates this report now when attempting to delete an item from the in box. This error notice did not occur before the uninstall adventure, but OE would lock in place during any attempt to delete mail. Seems I traded a lockup for a shutdown.

Thanks for the suggestion all the same. All the adventure I can stand for one day. Maybe tomorrow will be less hectic and I can follow through with Zander and mflnn 's suggestions.

    Good nite all.

My suggestion allways has worked in this case. Should have been done 1st.

It may still clear the box. But now the errors are from what you did.

Try safe mode to clear the box. Then either way.....

I would do a repair of Internet explorer!
