    hi
I have some files which wont defragment and I cant delete. Ive been reading previous posts about deleting using the command prompt.
My problem is that some of my directories seem to be inaccessible. I can open some using cd, such as cd disney but documents directory wont open. I type in cd documents but get a message that its an invalid directory. Same for media downloads. Ive tried to get into recovery console which I installed ages ago but get a blue screen. Am I typing something wrong into the command prompt?

Have you tried to delete these files in Safe mode - logged on as Administrator?

Safe mode as an administrator worked for some of the files so thanks for that, but there was one directory I couldnt access. I got a message telling me I couldnt delete the directory because it was not empty, whatever that meant. I checked it for a virus but nothing found. In the end I copied all the other directories to a separate drive, formatted and copied the directories back again. Long winded but it worked.

Thanks for posting back - had the same problem on a friend's m/c with a USB drive for digital camera files - directory not empty, but no obvious contents. Reformatting removed them - no problem :D

If the situation ever comes up again,
rd /s is the command to remove a directory, any subdirectories, and all contents.

Same as the deltree command in earlier OS versions.

Should usually work from safe mode. If not, the command is available from the recovery console and stuff will go away then - for sure.
