    Hi all,

Is it safe\OK to delete the "downloads.rdf" file in SM 1.1.18?

The reason I ask is because in the file are listings of a lot of things I've downloaded from the web and from my e-mail. And while there's nothing in there I wouldn't want my mother see, I don't like the idea of SeaMonkey storing more personal data than it already does.

Also, I don't know if this should be a separate post, but, in Edit\Prefs, where I've got my home page listed, in what file is that info stored? As you know, Google's "fade" is a smashing flop. What I'd like to do is edit the page info and see if I can get it to load without the fade "” if that's possible "” by amending something.

    Hi Just Plain,

Long time no speak, I'm still here though :D

    From MozillaZine

As far as Google's fade goes, I agree it's [insert expletive here] annoying but the only option I can suggest is editing your homepage, in Firefox it's under tools->options main tab, I'm not sure about SeaMonkey though.

    Hi wildfire,

Thanks for the delete info. TonyT gave me a batch file so I could delete the .dat and .mfl files (or whatever I want). Now that I know it's safe to delete, I can add a line to my file.

SeaMonkey doesn't have an "options" tab so that's why I'd like to know where it is so I can try to amend it.

 Chris, how do you set your homepage in SeaMonkey. Please don't ask me to download and try it out myself .

Set your homepage to about:blank or whatever other site you want.

I set my home page just like everyone else: Edit\Prefs\Navigator; and my home page is Google.

Now, I know SeaMonkey stores this info somewhere, I'd just like to know where so I can edit it.

The lines I'd like to edit\amend\tweak (if possible) are in View Page Source:
    <!doctype html><html onmousemove= "google&&google.fade&&google.fade() ">

and: fade{opacity:0;} fade{background:#fff;} and every other instance of "fade" I can find. That way I can fool around with it and see if I can make that **** annoying "fade" go away.

No can do Chris, that is part of the google webpage. Live with it, change your homepage or turn graphics off and live with a text browser.

You could try asking Google to change their website for you of course:rolleyes:

    Hi wildfire,
Bwa ha ha, pilgrim. There's, literally, millions of people that hate the fade and since the MBAs at Google have their ego's on the line, I doubt that anything will change. I did discover that making the homepage line google.com/firefox will get rid of the fade, but I have gmail accounts.

As far as changing the Source goes, doesn't SeaMonkey (and other browsers) call up the homepage from where it's stored? And if it calls up an amended file, won't the browser use it?

There's hundreds of places it could be, I just don't want to spend the rest of my life hunting for it just to try a tweak.
