I am not sure whether this will belong in this forum or xp forum because of what it may relate to.

I am running Windows XPSP2

When I decide to open an office document, it takes like 10 to 12 seconds before the processing light on the cpu blinks.

I have office 2007
This does not happen with every program.

Opera and Windows Media Player and opening My Computer and junk do the same. It freezes for 10 to 12 seconds then works

I have CA AntiSpam running in background have no idea if that relates

Also, I have Vista transformation pack

It is weird, after I came back from a two week break I had, I just noticed it.

The only changes I have made were really Classic Menus For Office 2007 and CA AntiSpam

+Ccleaner

This is the process list I currently have, even if I exit all of those programs, I still have the same issue

Well I did Windows XP Diagnostic Startup

and went through each startup

I figured, I think it is a problem with my Office 2007

Any ideas?

Two thoughts:

1:
Is Classic Menus For Office 2007 a separate program? I see mention of it, if so, remove it

2: Do a repair install of Office 2007.

I am having the same problem only mine is even slower in opening Word or Excel documnets. I find I only have this problem when I am connected to a wireless network and these documents open quickly when I am not connected. I have disabled "Scan Microsoft Office documents" in my Norton 2007. Anyone have any solutions?

I too am noticing slow launch of office 2007 programs and I assume its the virus program (I run the AVG series) scanning the launch. Outlook is especially slow in loading. With all the **** out there is consider the time spent insurance.

I don't think so. I did a repair once because Excel did not properly and and my options did not change. The only thing I can think of is that if the config file is bad or corrupt it may create a new default one.

Because Excel did not properly... ?

"The only thing I can think of is that if the config file is bad or corrupt it may create a new default one. "

You think that is for Office Word, not outlook

I have all of my settings account, folders, and spambeys set up in outlook

I dont want that to disappear when I am ONLY doing a repair for WORD

Hi sniper9228,

While I don't want to point fingers unjustly and have no personal knowledge or experiences with Office2007 as 2002 is the most recent version I use, I have had my attention recently drawn to issues with the 2007 Suite. As I always routinely do, I immediately do a Google search to double check for known problems and complaints, both recent and past. Couldn't help but notice the gazillion hits on such common complaints as "Slow ", Outllook addin problems, etc. I expected hits but not in such huge numbers and page after page of links being "On-Topic ". I can only guess or suspect that many of the issues maybe related to the product being installed on older systems and this version should be installed on the newer systems more adept or geared toward handling the extra "resource demands" this suite seems to require. Alternatively you'll need to find a good Site that deals solely and specifically with Office 2007. One that offers tips on how to turn off all the "bells and whistles" that are not needed or are known to be more trouble than they're worth. I don't know of one offhand but perhaps another member will have a suggested link or two. If not Google.com may be helpful. Which leads me to get more to the point of my post.....

I have noticed that you do have Outlook loaded and running and also have searchindexer.exe service running. If the File is related to 2007 Outlooks option and not some desktop search tool that you've installed, this is one of those issues that I previously mentioned noticing. The combo has been know to use 100% of cpu which will bring other tasks in windows to a near standstill. See:
http://groups.google.com/groups?sou...q=SearchIndexer.exe&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wg

Do you check for cpu hogs ( a process that seems to be using a large amount of cpu resources) with taskmanager (cntrl\alt\del)? Ever notice searchindexer.exe as one of these?

Could be worth disabling as instructed in various links provided.

Further have you noticed or caught anything in taskmanager that is using a large chunk of cpu resources?
----------
I also noticed that you have stated that you have tried "ending tasks ". This may not be the most effective way to test for problem processes. Many have drivers that are not unloaded just because you have ended them in taskmanager. Also many will simply restart no matter how many times you end the task. Searchindexer falls into this category. NOTE* this may not be your primary issue, and further may not be an issue at all but it is something to consider.

I also can't help but notice that you have quite a few tasks running as an autostartup. The archives are full of tips and links for paring down and stopping these. It will take research to see "what each does" and "is related to" and if "they can be safely disabled ", "uninstalled" or at least stopped from autostarting. Keep in mind that it may not be one thing that is at fault. ?It? may be perfectly care free when running with certain other programs and startups. But... throw in the wrong program and the new combination of things may result in an unhappy startup and background running task group that does not "work or play well with others ". The whole "elimination of startups" can be quite lengthy but is well worth it the end.

I think you will discover many of the files you have loaded at startup have known issues for some users. NOTE* You also have various security processes set into place and while this is a good thing it may also go hand in hand with system slowdown. You may have to make a judgement call ( such as poster "sparky" has done) and weigh the gains against the losses as opposed to not having them in-place and running. As stated, he has accepted the speed loss and considers it well worth the loss as opposed to the possible critter problems that may result.

Problem Solved

Just updating status on this topic.

My word documents open much faster now. I have no idea why but my problem is fixed. Maybe Arie's suggestion helped.
