delay in drop down windows

I am using Word Perfect (v12). When I try to open a file, and I have to use the drop down window, it takes 15 or 20 seconds for the window to open up, so I can select a location where the files resides that I want. It does not happen in Word 2007, only in Word Perfect v12. The windows does eventually open up.

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem. I have used a registry cleaner and reinstalled Word Perfect, but to no avail.
