I would like to Defreg. on my tower. I first have to remeove files I don't want or not being used. I already deleted things from "my pictures," and from "add/remove. What is a safe way to look at files or delete the right things so I have more disk space? Have to be so carefull about deleting!!
    Thanks,Bev

Hi Bev. If you want to remove temp files from your computer then download and run ATF Cleaner.

After you have ran ATF Cleaner download and run Auslogics Disk Defrag.

IMO Auslogics Disk Defrag does a much better job at defragmenting your computer than the standard Windows Defrag tool.

Hello Evan, downloaded and ran AFT cleaner; ran http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/download/.It helped a little. Drive C has 60.7 GB of used space and only 13.8 GB of free space. The program did take out a lot of files it had found errors, didn't use anymore, etc. Still a lot in there to get rid of. I downloaded for trial use Auologics Boost speed and Disk Defreg...took a lot out too but still only have 13.8 GB

In addition to running those tools that I mentioned, run the Disk Cleanup Utility. How to use the Disk Cleanup Utility.

When you run Disk Cleanup go ahead and select all the checkboxes in the program and make sure you delete all but the most recent restore point. When thats done click ok to allow disk cleanup to remove unnecessary files from your machine.

After Disk Cleanup has finished click Start< Control Panel< Network and Internet Connections< Internet Options. Under Browsing History click the Delete Button. Make sure all checkboxes are selected except for Preserve Favorites Website Data and click the Delete button.

Cut your System Restore down from 12% to 5%. MS did an over kill on this.

Thank you MrBill, I changed the % In the system restore from 12% to 5% and my free space went from 13.7 GB to 16.9 GB. That's great.....being an older tower the Info to change the % was all in the window "System Restore." I just had to slide the pointer to the left. I am defreging again and it's going much faster. Thanks for the Advice. My husband has a ton of songs in there and I am sure that takes a lot of space but he says "No." Thanks, Bev

Tell him to put them on a disc, MP3 player or something. That would probably get you a ton of space.
If that drive fails, he won't have an ounce of songs on there.

Just remember that if data is stored solely on independent media be it an external USB drive, CD/DVD, Mp3 player, etc you do not have a backup :)

Thank you. He does have a MP3 and all of the songs are on there. He seems to feel that if the songs are taken out of the computer,he won't be able to get them on his mp3. He paid for a lot of them so maybe that's why he dosen't want to take them out in case something happens to his Ipod or mp3 player, but your right, he could transfer them.
