Hello, My security software MCAfee was about to expire, so I uninstalled it and installed the Microsoft Security Essentials on my desktop computer running Vista with 32bit, I already had Defender working before installing MSE, but now I can not get Defender to turn on or open the defender software to turn it on. Is there an issue with running both MSE and Microsoft Defender on the same computer?
Thank you for any advice would be appreciated.

It is recommended that you uninstall Defender if you use MSE.
I am using MSE and have done this and have no problems. Cheers Neil.

When you have Defender installed on Windows XP, Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) installation should remove it.

When you install on Vista or Windows 7, Defender should be disabled by MSE (it can't be removed).

MSE and Defender use the same core engine, with MSE adding additional protection.

Thank you for your replies. I appreciate it.
I liked Defender in that the Tools allowed me to view what programs are running on start up and disable them in Defender from running on startup, as sometimes when I open and use certain programs and reboot, they startup when the computer starts. I don't like running to many programs at once as I do a lot of photographic work in Adobeshop. Is there another way to view and disable programs that continue to want to run on startup after I have used them?
