I work in a small school and our default printer is a leased Ricoh multifunction. Today the default Afico 3245C was changed to a MF C5000 - to which I allocated the same IP address.

The new machine is printing documents and the web interface is bringing up the new machine. I haven't tested it yet with all our client machines but if the first tests are anything to go by then it's settled itself onto our domain well.

Our printers are picked up by local IP address installs on Macs and a mix of Group Policy and vbs for our MS XP and Windows 7 clients. I'm tempted to leave well alone as everyone knows where their work is going to pop out and unless there turns out to be a need to change drivers then clients will just continue printing to the default even though it is not listed under the correct name - won't they, or am I wrong?

Test one of them. Then if it don't work, post back. You are putting the cart before the horse right now. :D

Thanks MrBill, yes I have carried out a test print on the C5000 using the default listed3245C and it worked. That's why I was asking the question - I'm reluctant to delete the 3245C, network set up the C5000 and change all the references in Group Policy and the vbs. Especially as from past experience it seems to be necessary to visit each client machine to run the first install as an Administrator.
