I recently uninstalled AOL. When I did, the default mail client message comes up when I try to reply when in a website.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Check in Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Programs that your current mailer is selected from the Email drop down list.

default mail client not properly installed

I use Internet Explorer which has been selected but doesn't make any difference. Don't know what else to try or if I just don't understand.

As I do not run Vista nor Windows Mail (XP SP3 + Outlook Express) it may be difficult for me to offer specific help beyond that which I have already posted. However .....
Please confirm that in Internet Explorer - Tools > Internet Options > Programs tab that Windows Mail is selected from the Email dropdown list.

Secondly is Windows Mail listed in the Default Programs list? - if not there is a solution here .....

Windows Mail missing from the default programs listing

I think your basic problem stems from AOL which although nominally uninstalled has left some remnants in the Registry ....

Windows Vista Default Mail Client is not properly installed

From which I would suggest searching the Registry for references to AOL and deleting them.

The safest way of doing that is to use the Registry Finder tool in the free, uncrippled trial of jv16PowerTools and when deleting the keys detected use the backup facility offered.

    Mail client not properly installed

It seems to be fixed now. I went to one of the links you sent me and downloads the mail client registry. I hope this is the end of this problem. Thanks for you help.:)

Glad that I was able to help despite not using Vista, etc :)
