    Hello All,

Trying to go to file-export-messages-then when I click ok to export to MS Outlook or MS Exchange I get the error "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run MS Outlook and set it as default mail client." I click OK and then get the error mssg "The export could not be performed. An error occurred while initializing MAPI. "

I have set the default to Outlook Express numerous times and even restarted my computer.

What I'm trying to do is save some of my email to a cd.

    Can anyone advise on this?

    Thanks

Create a folder in My Documents and name it Emails Received. In Outlook/Outlook Express click on the message you wish to save and click on File>>Save As. Give it name and select/browse to the folder you have just createdand save it in that folder.

You can also create another folder for Emails Sent to save any messages you have sent (in the Sent Items folder).

I have followed these instructions but I think where the problem is to save more than one message, a whole folder of messages. I've got several thousand that I've saved from photography, graphics, and coaching forums. I don't want to lose them but they are taking up my harddrive space.

    Sincerely,

    Millicurie

You need to Save As for each message. I do not know of another method as I save as I receive/send them.

For some unknown reason, Outlook Express will only export messages to either Outlook (Outlook Express's big brother) or MS Exchange.

Given the number of messages you want to save, I can understand why you hesitate to undertake saving them all one by one. However, that is, as far as I know, the only way to save them in a format that can be read by a word processing program.

Another way to back up your messages is to save the folders the messages are in. They can later be imported back into Outlook Express if you want to view them since Outlook Express will import from any storage folder you point it to.

The folders are dbx files...do a search for inbox.dbx...all the rest of the OE folders will be in the same place. Just put the ones you want to keep on the CD.

Just found this on another thread: Go to InsideOE and get their free OE backup utility. That should do the trick for you.

One other thing you could try is to Drag & Drop your messages to the folder you created in My Documents.

You would need to have open both OE and the folder in My Documents in a split screen fashion by re-sizing both Windows into half sizes, one on top and the other at the bottom without any overlaps.

Try with just one message first to see if it copies to the folder, then highlight several and Drag & Drop those to see what happens.

I have not used Inside OE but that should also work.

I came in on this a bit late in the game, but I use a small Stand Alone Program called DBXtract. It will extract all the e-mails from your dbx files into any folder you want. Of course, you then will still have to weed out the ones you didn't want after extracting them.

Here's a link to it & it also tells how to use the program on this page.
