I've had some annoying crashes involving DDhelp recently. I know this is due to something with my video card drivers and DirectX. I recently upgraded to DirectX 9.0, installed the 4 in 1 AGP slot driver for my mainboard and updated my video card drivers. I did uninstall the old drivers first.

    Hi

Mind if I get two cents in--hope not.
I dont understand all the implications...
I was also getting ddhelp errors, no crash's just an error and then we would have to ctrl alt del ddhelp --not responding
was useing sunjava till ms offerd the latest VM update 5.0.3810.0

No longer get any errors (yet)

    dont forget faultlog

    regards

I'm also using Sun's Java. I wanted to d/l the new M$ Java but their new download site froze my computer, so I couldn't download it.

edit: Well I installed M$ new Java. Maybe that'll help somewhat. I did notice that sites that used Java were crashing my browser. I'd like to avoid reinstalling my DirectX and vid drivers if that's possible.

Another thing I noticed is the new vid drivers loaded a couple programs in my memory at startup ATIPoll and ATISmart. I disabled those cause maybe they're causing troubles too.

    Hi shadowhawk
those I thought are necessary at startup, But there is another
you can stop with ati control panel, cant remember name..the one in the tray.

    I had a **** of a time trying to install ati's drivers from 3/13/03
the driver package would not install , kept getting unable to register dll but the control panel did install .
But If i look at it from the update driver wizard there is no enhanced driver installed, put it this way update driver > show all hardware shows 2/28/003 version 4.14.01.9088
maybe it is an enhanced driver ,who nows everything works ok
except if i use the update driver wizard automatically look for a better driver and even though it finds exactly same driver and I cancel out windows prompts to restart --------then upon restart the screen is corrupt and never gets to windows,,I had to boot to floppy and scanreg/restore. anyway thats my problem-sorry.
ati's support wasn't much help--through a bunch of generic instructions at me----like i really need to defrag and scandisk..

What ati adapter do you have and did you install the ati control panel also

" "I recently upgraded to DirectX 9.0" " is that a typo 9.0a is the latest..
Have you been into device manager ati and ran its tests?
and you know better that I, directX's test's

Ours is windows ME , Ati 7500 (built by) PCI-- has to be built by for the supposed enhanced drivers to work.

"wanted to d/l the new M$ Java but their new download site "
What do you mean ? Got ours at winup, guess you mean directx

    Web page

    Regards
    Lonny

I have the 64 MB AGP VIVO card. I believe I also have the ATI Control Panel installed, but I don't use it.
