Hi,,,,,,,,I was playing this game called Soulbringer. Whenout of the blue the resolution of the game screen changed from beautiful graphics to something more like a coloring book than a video game.
When I try to reload the game I get the following message.........DD Enumerator: failed to Enumerate Direct Draw deviceswith Direct X. Error code 80070057: one or more of the parameters passed to the method are incorrect.

Did I pick up a virus or something that wiped out my Direct X?

    Can I correct this problem?

I would get the latest DirectX and install it. That should do the trick.

    Hi Bluejay,
    Thanks for the tip.
Where exactly would I find the newest version of Direct X to download?

    Hi Bluejay,
I installed the latest Direct X 9. But the DD Enumerator message keeps appearing when I try to play the game.
What is the Direct Draw Enumerator and whose job is it to make it work, Direct X's or the Video Graphics Card's.

Sorry, can't answer your question. But if the DirectX is OK, the next step is to reinstall your video card. If that doesn't work, go to the web site of your video card maker and see if there is an updated driver for your card.

and---for what it is worth--I also found this

Why am I getting the message "Could not Enumerate DirectDraw main object "?

Answer taken from Greyed's reply Here
This problem commonly occurs when the paths for AC in your registry are invalid. If you dual log and have run the 2 registry files that are involved, there is a good chance this is the problem. To solve this problem you can try a few things.

Rerun the origional.reg file to reset your path statement (note: filename may not be the same, run whatever .reg file points everything to your main AC Directory)
Open regedit to the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Asheron's Call\1.00 and verify that the paths in there ALL point to your AC install dir.
    - InstallationDirectory
    - path
    - PortalDat
If the above fixes don't work for you, check them again, check the .reg file and make sure there are two(2) backslashes in the path divisors (e.g.. "InstallationDirectory "= "C:\\Games\\AC\\Asheron's Call "). This IS the problem, and I have had multiple people swear up and down that the paths are correct, then come back a minute later and say 'oops I was missing a slash'.

Another idea sent to me by email
just wanted to pass along, I solved my Decal prob:'Could not Enumerate DirectDraw main object' by changing my previously FIXED swap file of 50MB to the DEFAULT, 'let windows manage'. Hope this helps others....

Bluejay, Thank you for the leads and info. All very much appreciated.
I did update my Video card but no luck.
I will post a result when I have exhausted the solutions.
One of them should do the trick.

    Hi,,,,,
I followedthe directions to a point and then I am kind of lost.
I did run regedit. I tried opening HK Local Machine but nothing happened so I cruised around until I could find a microsoft folder and a software folder and looked in them.
In the software folder I found the game Soulbringer. When I opened it it didnot look even close to your outline.
I must be doing something wrong.

Have you tried removing the game and reinstalling it?

Not yet but I guess it can't hurt.........Does this mean I'll have to start over again from the beginning?
No matter, I can't play the game anymore as it is anyhow.
    I'll try that.
