I have downloaded a web site to view offline, using an offline browser. The filesize (thousands of files) was about 80MB. When i tried to transfer it to my usb flash drive, the transfer took over 30 minutes. Eventaully, i have tried to zip the website, and the filesize became 76MB. When I tried again to transfer the zip file (although almost same size) the transfer took only about 2 minutes.

Does any one know why there is all this difference in time between the two transfers ? Please note, that this does happen with almost any website i download.

Thank you very much for any explanation.

Many small files will take longer than one large file. 30 minutes sounds a bit exccesive though for 76 mb.

Disk access and read/write time gets multiplied by the number of files, plus fragmentation is also a consideration.

Mron--I was not aware that many small files took longer to transfer than one large one, so thanks for that info. And maybe that explains why transfer of the one .zip file went faster than the earlier transfer of the many original files.
