My "C" Drive (Hard drive: WD 5400 RPM EIDE Hard Drive 120GB) used to capture DV data swell. However, I started getting dropped video frames. I deleted some video and graphic files, but now (and this has been going on for about three weeks) when I try to capture video using Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus, I get the following message (after a data rate test): Drive C is not capable of capturing DV data. It says my hard drive data rate is too slow.

My question is: How would a data rate on a hard drive suddenly change, and how can I increase the data rate back to it's original speed?

Again, my hard drive is a WD 5400 RPM EIDE Hard Drive 120GB...My O/S is Windows XP Home Edition...Intel Pentium 4.266 GHZ Hyper Threading Processor.

If anyone can help me increase my data transfer rate on my hard drive, I would be eternally grateful!

    Help!

    Sincerely,
    SuperPanasonic

    Hi,

    Do a disk cleanup
    http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-16.html
    and defragmentation.

Disable file checking programs like antivirus.

Go to Device Manager -> ATA/EIDE devices, right click on Primary Controller, just check that it is set to "DMA mode if available" and the Ultra DMA mode is 5. (These should be tested by the manufacturer's utilities anyway.)

The tests at www.pcpitstop.com might help identify a cause.

Check your settings in the Studio Program. Run through the manual for those settings related to DV capture. If you have needed to change any settings from default, they may have reset to default at some stage (I looked at the manual and see there are few settings that can be changed for DV capture, although, can you say, reduce the audio quality?)

    Do you have the updates?
    Patch 9.4.3
