Often when I view photos taken on my digital camera, they apear to be very dark. Yet, when I send them to others, they say they are fine and bright. I have had similar experience with some videos. Is there a change I can make to computer settings to eliminate or reduce this effect? boblong3181

Hi, boblong3181. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

You might be able to compensate for the loss of brightness by using the buttons on the front of your display monitor to adjust brightness and/or contrast.

Is your monitor a CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor (bulky, similar to the old television sets)? If so, how old is your CRT monitor?

Over years of use, CRT monitors seem to gradually lose their brightness, especially if the user habitually left the monitor on when the user wasn't using the computer. I have personally experienced this gradual loss of brightness with my CRT monitor. (I found myself occasionally adjusting the monitor's brightness and contrast to higher levels.) I noticed a remarkable difference when I finally replaced my 5+ year-old CRT monitor with a new LCD monitor. I don't know if LCD monitors are better in this regard or not.
