Will be Installing a D-Link DFE-530TX NIC card onto a w95b OS. As with most software/hardware today, OS requirements are w98 or higher. Anyone have any first hand experience if this NIC will work on a w95. My local dealer says "should work ".

At the D-link site for drivers for the DFE-530TX+ shows the window driver will work with 95 along with other versions. DFE-530TX+ drivers

    Thank you Russ

I've also found that same link. All the win/OS's use the same driver. I've d/l the exe file... BUT... which should I use.... Viewing contents of the CD install disk, there is a folder called "Autoinstall ". In this folder there are four sub-folders, one for each OS ending at w98. Will my w95 pickup the w98 folder or is it going to stop/hang.... Verse ... just use the driver download .exe from D-Link site? The question I have between these choices (download-or-install CD), does the 605KB(exe) d/l from the site provide ALL the required software or is it a driver only. The install CD is 1.3 MB. containing 23 folders and 6 objects. Does it include any additional required software?
Probably the simplest way to ask the question....
Is the site download a "NEW hardware install" file or just a driver update file?

If you put the card in the computer, it may be automatically recognized as new hardware. During install, you should be prompted for the driver location, and your Windows CD.
Just browse to the WIN98 folder on the CD during driver install, and all should go well. 98 uses all the same networking components as 95.
If you already have the card in the computer, and it's NOT recognized as a NIC, prompting for the driver, it will be listed in device mangler as "Other Hardware ".
Expand the tree, highlight whatever is unknown, and select Properties. On the driver tab, you can update driver, and again, browse to the WIN98 folder on the CD. Once the system recognizes that it's a NIC, you'll be prompted for the Win95 CD to install all the networking components.
There is no other "required software ", simply the driver. All other software is installed via the Windows CD. The download is probably just drivers, the CD contains extraneous software (usually trialware) such as an anti-virus program, a browser, or other un-needed and unwanted software. This software is how D-Link offset the cost of the NIC and CD, by providing sponsored software to help fill up the CD.

    Thank you reboot

Got the NIC installed. Ended up using a GigaFast EE100-AXP 10/100 (office friend had a house spare). First pass through w95 device manager was not happy, removed, and on the 2nd boot up it installed smooth. w95 and ADIA32 both recognized the card correctly. w95 is receiving shared access to internet via the Linksys router. Just started to check the network. My XP shared network folders are seen on both PC's. But w95 C:\ drive is NOT available to my XP.... get "specified network name is no longer available ". Hmmmm, always something. This all started to improve my network speed, which was abnormally slow. Did a file transfer via shared folders, no speed change. I'm getting suspicious I've never had networked configured correctly. Will address that issue in "Network" forum.
Thanks again to Russ and reboot.
