Howdy All, long time no see....

I have been using AVG free antivirus now for a couple of years and think that it is great, but recently noted that it goes from freeware to costware in January, so on my budget I have reluctantly been on the lookout for a replacement, and noted in some recent "news" that CyberDefender is going from costware to freeware. Curious about it, I did a search here on your grand forum and was surprised to find nothing on it, since all the "news" on it seemed to be very positive.

CyberDefender, in addition to their AV, is actually a "suite" of security products, and several of the news items indicated that it can be used along with similar existing security software without any problems...

So, wondering if anyone has any knowledge of, or experience with, CyberDefender, as well as what you all that use AVG free AV intend to do when it goes costware...?

Here's the home site link below, and there are several hits on reviews if you want to do a search on "CyberDefender 2.0 Free "...

    Hi, keywester.

Given CyberDefender's apparent past dubious ties (i.e., with SpyBlocs/eBlocs.com according to Spyware Warrior's "Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites" list and its fairly recent de-listing from Spyware Warrior's Rogue/Suspect list (7-8-06), I would be inclined to steer clear of CyberDefender for awhile at least and choose a different, more reputable free application.

    According to http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#cybdef_note:
Even though Spyware Warrior has de-listed CyberDefender from it's Rogue/Suspect list, I would at least give it some more time before I try downloading and installing CyberDefender (just to be on the safe side).

From the AVG link PeteC provided: AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 15th of Jan 2007.

All they are saying, I think, is that they want everyone to upgrade to AVG 7.5 Free because they are no longer going to support ver 7.1.

You're welcome - and not the only one who was confused by that announcement - a few of my friends were too :)
