My dad emailed me for help. He said when using Word or when typing emails in Netscape, the cursor jumps up about 5-8 lines, about once every minute.

I assume he's not accidently leaning on any keys. Is there an easy solution that a non-tech-savvy grandpa can do himself? No reinstalling drivers or anything like that.

    Thanks.

Probably has a stuck key on his keyboard. Try another keyboard.

Is this a laptop with a touchpad? This post offers an interesting scenario where the touchpad is so sensitive that if not disabled, or possibly sesitivity adjusted, that things such as hand heat or movement can cause touchpad to move the cursur sporadically:

As suggested by Dez Bradley, but expanded upon...Could also be a stuck key on the keyboard that is causing a shortcut of some kind to be done when the right key combo is made. I know the shift and control keys can do this particularly when used with the numbered keypad. For instance a key combo of shift plus either the "home "(#7) or "end "(#1) keys can cause the cursur to skip to the beginning or end of a sentence. I'm sure there's some similar combo for moving to the beginning or end of a paragraph. I just don't know what it is. Point is he needs to check for stuck keys or switch the keyboard as suggested. In any case switching the keyboard would diffinitely be a fast way to confirm whether it was a keyboard glitch. If not the keyboard perhaps the mouse also has a scroll key assigned to perform something other than scroll, either when rolled or clicked. This would require a check into the mouse softwares, setting and options. Can't be specific here because it would depend on the mouse and software.

Never really used "accessibility options" for keyboard whereby "sticky keys" and the like can be enable and used. It's been so long I'm not even sure what the various things can do. I do know that having this or these options enabled can cause odd keyboard behavior when they've been activated by accident or are enabled. That check could be done via the control panel>accessibilities icon. If any are enabled try disabling them.
