    Dears;

    I have a problem with my Laptop (Dell LATITUDE D520) that after installation of fresh copy of WXP, when I am composing a mail, the cursor by-self moves to the downward or upward. I come to know when I read the composed sentences and found mistakes. Please help.

    Same thing happens to me occasionally. My thumb(s) accidently touch the touchpad while I'm typing and move the cursor.

    Some laptops have a function key or tiny switch next to the touchpad to disable it. On others running Windows, you can often disable the touchpad in Mouse Properties. Of course if you do this you'll then need a regular mouse attached, or a touch screen, to be able to move the cursor around.

    OTOH did you install the motherboard chipset drivers, touch pad drivers, etc after the install of XP? I guess you formatted the disk.

    Ask the IT person if he downloaded and installed the drivers from Dell.

    The drivers for the Dell Lattitude D520 are here at Dell, but I don't see a Touchpad driver which is strange. Have you tried using a mouse?

    This Dell Manual tells you how to disable the Touchpad

    Have a look in Device Manager and determine the make, etc of the touchpad and go to the manufacturer's website direct.

    I don't want to disable the touch pad.
    This is strange for me that now frequency of the problem has reduced by almost 70% without doing any thing.

    Unfortunately, in WinXP, it's not possible to disable the touch-pad. Later versions of Windows do allow it. On DW's net book, the touch-pad is such a PITA that we got a wireless USB mouse, which works beautifully.

    It might be that you're touching the pad without realising it. Depending on how you hold your hand while typing on the keyboard, it can be very easy to hit the pad without realising you've done so.

    When I can figure out how to open the case on Momma's ASUS netbook without breaking anything, I want to increase the RAM so we can use an RV campground finder program. At the same time, I plan to disconnect (or snip the wires) to the touch pad. If I ever meet the peckerhead that invented that stupid device, I'd be tempted to strangle him.
