    Hello everyone!

Hoping that someone can explain to me about how I can go about fixing (changing) my cursor? I'm not sure if I can explain this (so that it's understandable or if I'm even in the right category to be asking) , but here goes!

When I point my cursor over a clickable link on a web page, I have the pointing hand/finger showing (which is not a problem) but when I click on the link, it doesn't show or change to the "hour glass" (or something similiar), so that I know that it is working? I find this can be very frustrating at times as I think I have clicked on the link only to wait and wait (because I forget sometimes to look in the lower task bar to see if it is actually loading!)

I thought it used to do that (change to the hour glass thing) many moons ago (prior to my downloading/upgrading from IE4 to IE 5.5), but maybe that was just my imagination? (and my memory isn't that sharp).

If anyone could explain to me if this can be "easily" fixed or changed, it would be much appreciated. If what I'm asking isn't possible, I know I can live with it, but as long as there are so many of you helpful computer gurus out there, I thought I'd seek some knowledgeable advice! :)

    Sincerely,
    Vicki

    Hi Vicki,

Try going to Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers

and check that a scheme is selected - if one is, try another!

Just a shot in the dark!

Thanks Pete, I tried your suggestion (trying several schemes) but to no avail. The cursors did change, but not the one with the hand/finger when clicking on a link? Maybe I am doing something wrong? I appreciated your willingness to help. If there is anything else you (or anyone else) knows of that I could try or is this something that can not be changed?

    Thanks again,
    Vicki

Go back to Control Panel>Mouse>Pointers tab and click on the "Working in Background" to select it. Then click on the "use default" button.

If that doesn't restore the one you want, use the "Browse" button to look for the animated cursor of the arrow with the hourglass. The browse button should open the "Cursors" folder within the Windows folder. If not, navigate to that folder to find the cursor you're looking for.

On my system, there are three... "appstart.ani," "appstar2.ani" and "appstar3.ani." Choose one, click on "Open" and if you like it, click on OK and that should do the trick.

    ==============================================
    Hi
Strange the hand should change to a hand with hourglass, by default, unless its been changed.

what does appear when you click a link ?

    ==================================
    Pete C
Try going to Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers
and check that a scheme is selected
    ====================================
I don't have any schemes's going at it that way,
Whoops Yes i do. try selecting 3d Pointers then use default and apply and OK
    Sometimes it flash's by quickly(hourglass)
You could change to an animated and then back to 3d seams to make it appear alittle longer on my system,
I may-be hallucinating on that one Ha ha
    :p

Or if you have the MS plus pack, control panel, desktop themes,
pointers sounds etc --see if anything appears in the preview pain when you select working in background.

Plus pack and mouse options seam to conflict sometimes.
If thats it say so ?

Still no luck with the "fixing" of my cursor. But was glad to hear Lonny say that the hand should change to a hand with the hourglass thing, (by default), so that I know I've not completely lost my mind (but getting close!) :D

With that said, when I click on a link (where the hand is pointing) nothing changes....still shows the hand so I can never tell if I'm actually being connected to the link I've clicked on.

I'm not sure what "MS plus pack" is, so don't know if I have that? But I did go to control panel>desktop themes>previews>pointers, sounds, etc.>pointers, but there is nothing that shows up in either the file name or the preview screen. So I'm wondering if this is where the problem may lie? I looked at a few others (i.e Sounds, Visuals) and they all show a file name and/or a preview where applicable.

I'm using W98, IE5.5 --forgot to mention that in my original post
 Sorry, hope that doesn't make too much difference in what I'm trying to accomplish??

Thanks again for everyone trying to assist...will continue to try any suggestions that are offered, in hopes that I can figure out this annoying "feature ".

    Hi Vicki

    First lets check something
click on a link and put the curser over the status bar
Status bar is where you mentioned seeing the progrees of a web page load. on IE'stoolbar View status bar should, be a check there.

anyway do you see the cuser now with the hourglass ?

If no go try Miz's suggestion --- havent mentioned if you tried it.

    Still looking....

Thanks to all who have tried to help. I still haven't figured this durn thing out, but am still looking/trying. (I may be going visit with my sister this weekend and while I'm there, check out how hers is set up to see if I can spot anything different?)

To Lonnie: Yes, when I click on a link (the hand showing) and then move my mouse/cursor to the status bar area, it does change to the pointer/hourglass thing.

I did also attempt to try Miz' suggestion, but that's where I was totally lost. When I highlighted "working in the background" the "use default" button was grayed out and I couldn't click on it? By choosing the browse button, I could see many cursors listed there, but nothing that I thought represented the hand with the hourglass thing?

So that's where I decided that I may need to actually look at another computer to help me figure this one out?

I appreciate all the suggestions offered here and will let you know if I ever get this figured out!

    Regards,
    Vicki

    Hi again

" "Yes, when I click on a link (the hand showing) and then move my mouse/cursor to the status bar area, it does change to the pointer/hourglass thing." "

well then there is no problem , its just loading the next page so quick you dont see it, the sever here is quick.

another test go to http://www.msn.com/ on the right side
click on america at war ( for instance) my hand thingy wants to stay but for a moment I do see the hourglass ,then it disapears
I have to put curser either in the status bar or titlebar
    to see hourglass.
also dont move the curser after clicking on a link seams to make it show a little longer

" "the "use default" button was grayed out and I couldn't click on it" "

thats maybe becouse you are already useing default.
Let us know what you find on the other PC

    Ready to give up....

Thanks to all who have tried to help me figure this one out, but think I'm maybe going to have to just live with it. I did check on my sisters computer but couldn't find anything different on hers than I have with mine, (but her's did change to the hour glass thing when clicking on a link.)

Guess I'll just have to make it a habit to move my mouse/pointer to the status bar after clicking a link (to assure myself that it's loading). I just find that to be a little frustrating to have to move it back and forth just to make sure I don't have to click on the link again! Grrrrr....

But thanks again to all for your suggestions!

    Hi Vicki

I think you're pc is just faster that before and doesnt display the hourglass as long ..

You could try another setting,, change to animated cursers, they seam to display longer, control panel , mouse, pointers tab
In the top box labelled Scheme set to animated click apply then ok
