I got my last update from Windows last week. I got a message that update KB4019472 failed to install. This has tried to install at least a dozen times since then and it fails each time. The biggest problem is the extra 10 minutes it take to try to install and them remove the changes. I tried a manual download and install and got a message that said "this update is not appropriate for this machine". Then why is it trying to install it.
Looking around the net, it seem like many people are having the same issues. Suggestions?

Hi lynn1102, What W10 version are you running? Your System Details show you are running 1510. I just checked with my wife's comp and it required a Restart to finish installing KB4019472 which was done on auto D/L on the 12/05/2017.
Her comp is running 1607 and I would suggest you look in Settings > Update & Security and see if there is a message requiring a Restart. It does not always show in the Notifications in the Systray.
Restart - when activated from Update & Security (in my opinion) seems to trigger the required action as opposed to a Restart from the Start button.
Your OS may not install the KB4019427 unless it's running version 1607. Are you on Auto Updates?

My Windows is version 1607. The latest update included lots of updates for Office, defender and some other things. They all installed with no problem. At the end of the install, the message about the failed update popped up. Nothing about a restart. Now every time I turn off the computer, I get a message that it is installing the KB4019472. It goes thru the motions, then says It can't install it, then undoes the changes. I do have a history of updates and I'm up to about a dozen attempts. I don't know what in that update, but it doesn't seem to effect the operation. Any suggestions as how to stop the attempted installs.
Yes, I am on auto updates.

You should restart the computer. Many updates are installed only after the previous updates have been installed properly.

I looked at the above link, but I have already done that. I tried downloading from the MS site and during the install I got a message saying "this program is not appropriate for this machine", or something close to that. A bit later I downloaded it from the store. When the install started, I got a message that said it was already installed.
But several times a day, usually when I turn the computer off, it tries to install it again. I goes thru the motions of install, long time, then restarts the computer and tells me the install failed and it undoes the changes.
I checked the registry and there are lots of listing for KB4019472.
In my history, I have at least 20 attempts to install this and each is a failure.
I turned off auto update but this thing keeps coming back. Any suggestions on getting rid of it.

Here's an example: This morning ( about 7 am) I turned on the computer and waited for the desktop to show up. When I got the desktop, I went for a snack and coffee. When I came back, I had the message that the update was being installed, then restart and a failed message.
A short time ago(11:50 am) I got a message that updates were ready and would be installed after hours. That's twice before lunch. I'm really getting tired of it.

As a last resort, I went to MS web site and found a fix it tool (wu170509.diagcab) that refers to this update. I ran the program and it found and fixed 4 problems. Now I won't be able to confirm if it works till I find out if the download is gone. I will report back here if it works.
I did clone my drive just in case. SFC was run several time and no problems found, and chkdsk. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm going to give up on this thing and reload windows. Turned the machine on this morning and as soon as it loaded I got a message that it was installing the update, then shut down and re booted to tell me it failed. About an hour later, computer running very slow and I discovered it was downloading the update again. Went to install mode, reboot to failure again. An hour later, I got a third try. During one of the downloads, I also got a program named Byte Fence, which is supposed to be a Malware/virus. I don't need either so I un-installed it. Since that time I can't use the start button or search box. When I click on them, right or left, they grey out and don't do anything. As of now, it seems everything else is working fine. Tried all kinds of stuff but still no start button.
Next job to download windows as my version is the up grade from 7.

PS: The fix it program from MS didn't help my problem. I'll mark this as resolve for now.

Was not offered to me on auto check yesterday, but a Check for Updates this morning started the download - a restart is required.
