I started playing L4D2 recently, and the game always crashes suddenly for no reason.
I use windows xp, and Ive been told to change some settings in CSC folder. (c:\Windows\csc)
But the folder isnt there, I tried showing hidden files, and still its not there.
Any idea why I cant find it? or where I can?

    Thanks alot,
    Smoockn.

I have only researched to see if I could help.

The C:\Windows\CSC folder appears to be involved with "Offline Files ". The settings appear to be made by opening My Computer, going to the Tools menu -> Folder Options -> Offline Files tab. If you have Offline Files disabled, that might be why you don't have that folder.

Check if the game needs you to enable offline files.

Without checking, I think disabling or enabling offline files can affect how you log onto Windows and "Fast User Switching ".

You'll have to uncheck Hide protected operating system files from Folder Options.

An "off the top of my head" suggestion...try making a new User Profile and checking there.

Open a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) and press [Enter].

Next type cd \Windows\CSC and press [Enter]

    Do you get any message?

You have to type cd \Windows\CSC and then press the Enter key.

    You didn't do that.

That was exactly what I was looking for. This confirms the folder (directory) isn't there.

    From a command prompt, run this command: REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\NetCache" /v FormatDatabase /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Then restart your computer and check again.

Theres still no CSC folder. I tried the "cd\windows\csc ".
But theres a "Connection Wizard" folder that I think wasnt there before.

    Im not sure.

Sorry, I'm out of ideas. The only thing that's (most likely) going to work is format & reinstall Windows.

Maybe a repair install will do the trick:

Boot from the WinXP CD (you may have to change a setting in your BIOS that allows you to boot from the CD). Do not choose the option to repair an XP installation using Recovery Console when prompted, choose the option to To set up Windows XP now press ENTER.

After more files have been copied, you'll get another selection screen where you should select the current XP installation, & the option To Repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R.

Make sure you have backups of all your personal files.
