I have an eMonster 550 running Win98SE, and about 30% of the time I have startup issues. Sometimes it'll bootup just fine, sometimes it'll freeze up, or give me a BSOD. I tried the MSConfig routine of disabling startup items to no avail. Seems I had most everything knocked down and I'd still get an occasional bootup failure. In a further effort to isolate the trouble, after gaining some additional insight by reading this forum, I've been using the Boot Log Analyzer program and in reviewing bootlog.txt after a failed boot the last "failed" entry is - "Dynamic Load Failed: cwchwcrl.vxd :File Not Found ". Am I on to something here? Sure hope so... I searched the Registry as well as my C drive and do not find any registry reference, nor is the file anywhere on my machine. My thinking is that if I could find this file somewhere and just load it, maybe it'll satisfy things. Sound like a plan? I'm pretty sure the file has got something to do with my Crystal on board soundcard, which by the way works just fine when the machine does come up properly, despite the file not being on my system. My websearches for this file have not been successful so far. Can someone steer me to where I might find it?

Normally, virtual device drivers have a reg entry.

    Try using Run: msconfig
to see if you can discover where this driver is supposed to be loaded from.

Also, search all files (*.*) for the text string (cwchwcrl) to see if it appears in any startup files, like Win.ini.

If your sound works fine, then it would seem wiser just to prevent the system from looking for that file. There are many posts in groups about this same problem, so you aren't alone. No solutions that I found. And no guarantee that it causes or contributes to your problem.

    Hi
Im also having these problems >well with no boot failures
I have crystall wdm audio codec --Its a built in sound device
or I should say part of the chipset included on my pc-
(intel chipset) hp pc --win me.

I havent figued it out exactly --seems to be that the modem and the sound device are fighting for control over irq's ?

I also had problems with the wdm when I had the beta version of windows media player upgrading it helped --also got the none beta version of directx 9 seems to have helped .
