I have a Creative M003 mobo that will not reconize the 80 gig HD I just bought. I found I need a bios update file named M003n147.bin.
Anybody out there got one, or know where to get it? I got one from wimsbios.com but the file was corrupt I think. When I tried to flash, it told me "source file not found ".

    Thanks in advance,Blu

You need to find the Mfg site then the model of your M/B. They usually have the correct BIOS update.

Make sure that you get the correct one or you could destroy your BIOS chip.

More than likely the problem is in the HD installation.

What brand of HD. If Western Digital go to their site and d/l their Data lifeguard tools. This will guide you thu installation and actually fdisk, format and transfer files from old HD if you want.

    MaxStore has a similar utility.

Be sure to read the doc because the HD type has to be set in BIOS to a specfic type for these to work but they tell you what to do.

You must have a somewhat older M/B and it does not have support fro the larger HD of today.

My reccomendation is to create at least 4 partitions on this HD. So that you have drives c: d: e: f: and maybe g: h:. You are coming from a 4 or 8g etc. to this huge drive anyway, right!

This will allow you to install your OS on c:, applications like MS Office on d: Graphics and music on e: and say backups on f:

I will give more specfic suggestions on this if you decide to do it this way.

    Thanks Mike

I was really upgrading the wifes PC by giving her my 20g h/d, and I was going to get me a 40g. But when I found only $20. more can get 80g, I couldn't resist. when I installed it, the pc froze during boot at detecting primary slave. I did some research that turned up the bios issue. My bios was limeted to 32g.
I also found that what I thought was a (1) in the file name, was really an (L). GEE, that do a difference. But anyway I got it all fixed now. The new bios found the new H/D,and I could procede with the partitioning and formating. Now all I gotta do is copy C drive over to D then make D into C. Which is why I'm going to put up a new post called "Copying C Drive" Come on and have a look.

    Thanks Again, Blu ;)
