I plan to do a clean install of 7, and to make a separate, small partition for the 'C':/Users/my name folders. Of course it won't be 'C' anymore!
Has anybody already done this? Any complications?
I think I saw that Arie had done this, any advice gratefully accepted.

Small? My \User folder takes up 90GB. Of course it depends what you save. I have 13GB worth of pictures, but 74GB is taken up by \AppData which stores application data.

I choose to leave \User on my C drive, and only 'moved' the My Documents folder to D.

See this post where I describe how I did that.
