When I run the Wizard it does not recognize the CD drive. It writes the reset information to drive J which is no accessible and not the CD drive.

    The CD is E.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Reset Disk?

If you are referring to Windows Backup that will not write directly to optical drives.

Reset Disc Wizard will Not write To CD

This is a pass word reset wizard for making sure that the administrator does not loose access to the computer because he looses his password.

You are supposed to just insert the disc on boot and the drive and then you are asked to enter a new password.

When I get to which drive to use the CD drive is not listed.

I do not have a floppy.

I am using Microsoft Windows XP Professional OS Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

I can now advise every one that the MS Hotfix described in MS KB Article Number(s): 894685 did not work.

It left me right where I started.:(

Well, if you don't have a floppy disk drive installed, there's no point, it will not work anyway.

You should inform Microsoft the hotfix isn't working, since the fix is still in testing.

    HP Says use USB drive

HP has just replied and said that the Wizrd will write to USB and that a jump stick will work.

I will buy and try that tomorrow.

Must admit that is news to me and not covered by MS in the URL I posted, but I can confirm that it works - creation at least. I'll leave it to you to confirm the reset option :)

Just as aside I just discovered something interesting.

I plugged my Sony digital camera in the UPC, killed the camera Wizard when it started up, and started the Recover pass word Wizard.

Yep, it offered to put the reset on the digital camera memory stick.

I did not go any farther because I do not know if the reset information will be erased when I pull the pictures off the camera in the next session.

How ever, hiding the reset data in plain site on a digital camera is an interesting idea.

    Sucess-Sweet Sucesss

    I can now report success.

I had an extra memory stick for my camera.
I stuck it in the port, cleaned it off, copied the reset key previously generated by the wizard, enter a simple password "Password" in the admin account, deliberately entered it incorrectly, and used the newly created password reset file on the memory stick to reset the password.

A memory stick works on my pc. :D
