I would like to create a new local Intranet segment.

Is it possible to hook up a Linksys Router BEFSR41 with its WAN port to a LAN port of another router?

I configured the WAN port of the Linksys Router BEFSR41 with an IP address (no dhcp) in the same segment as the LAN segment of the first router but I can't even ping to it.

Can it be done or do I something wrong?

That would be a new Subnet. Also called a Vlan or "Virtual Lan "
Not a good idea to use another router but it would work.
Most of the time it's done with a Managed Switch.

You can even link a PC to a particular Vlan by Mac Address.
