Ok guys, you're the experts! Here's what it probably so easy 4 u guys, but so very tough 4 me!
I took the fan assembly off to give it a proper clean. My attention was drawn because it kept coming on so so so loud! Thinking that the since the heat sink vanes were so full of.... yeouch! I' did all the totally sensible things and, yes, I was grounded, and removed the thing - gave it a full vacuum and all other cleans ( no polish applied of course ), put it back together and located back in place, put the plug back in to the m/board and now, and now, and now it just stays on - at full speed - at all times!
Can anyone give any reason for this? Any assistance? Any help! ????? I've checked the BIOS and all three items in regard to the fans are enabled. It says however that the temp of the CPU is 82degreesC - sounds pretty hot?? Can anyone offer any help.
    Thanks folks.

He's referring to thermal paste. It is applied to the processor and heatsink. This aids the heat transfer from the processor to the heatsink thereby letting it to run cooler. Many people swear by Arctic Silver. I have always used the thermal paste that can be bought at Radio Shack without any issues.

When you removed the heatsink there should have been some kinda gunk stuck to the proc and heatsink. The reason your running so hot is because if you didn't apply thermal compound you will have air gaps. This will result in your proc reaching very unstable heat conditions, which can damage the proc.

Go to your local computer shop and get some thermal paste. Price range is huge for about a $1 to $30. However in most cases the $1 stuff will do everything you need it to.

Pull off your proc put some paste on the middleof the proc (about 1/2 a pea in size) then remount the heatsink. You should see about a 20+ degree change.
