I've been trying to get an mx440 to work with an older computer, for internet/games. The spec is:

    pentium2 @ 300mhz
    intel al440lx mobo
    256mb ram
    mx440 128mb graphics
    98se

The crashes happen when installing software from CD, and when accessing the internet.
I've been thru the geforce faq, and the main possibilities were:

    1) APM - how do you switch this off in 98se? I looked in the device manager, but there doesn't seem to be a box to switch it off.
    2) IRQ - I tried changing the irq of the mx440, but when I clicked on the resource it told me I couldn't change it. Is there another way to do this?

The only other possibility I could think of was a ram issue, but as the crashes only happen at certain times, i'm not sure on that one.

    Thanks for help, cheers ben

Two ways to do this, the first method is a kill all.
I would first remove it from the Device Manager, then reboot and go straight into the BIOS and disable Power Management, be sure to disable the APM option.
Then reboot, and you will have no power management, your computer will no longer be powered down by software.
    OR
You can go into Controil Panel\Power Management, and change the Power Scheme to Always On, and you will be able to have a software power down.

    2) IRQ - I tried changing the irq of the mx440, but when I clicked on the resource it told me I couldn't change it. Is there another way to do this?

Changing IRQ's can get to be a complicated task, it really is better to have windows handle them. When you starting changing IRQ's, you will have to move something else to another, and figure out which hardware will share which IRQ. Some hardware IRQ's are hardcoded and used only by one piece of hardware, such as LPT1, your floppy, IDE controllers, and a few others.
