    Hi
Does any one know if you can fix a cracked software CD?
It has about a 1/8th inch crack on the outer edge.

I am tring to get a new CD or download the software, but I was wondering if there was a way to get around this?

    Hi Gerri,

Have you tried it? CD's are read from the inner edge out, so the reader may not have to contend with the crack.

    Hi
Yes I tried it. It won't load, I finally get the message "This program is not responding ".
I am getting another CD but it will take 4 to 6 weeks :(

I just hate to wait that long, It's driver and software for a free digital camera I got for signing up for DSL.

So any suggestions on what I could try? Doesn't really matter if I mess it up seeings how I'm getting another one.

    Hey Geri,
What kind of camera is it?
I may be able to e-mail you the drivers for it, or I can find a website to get the drivers for your camera.

    Hi cpu04
It is a "VuPoint" DC M302N-VP.
I'm guessing It's not a high end camera, being free
But it is the only digital camera I have, They're kind of spendy

At least I will be able to see if I will really want one later and spend the money

    Geri,

Try attaching the camera anyway. XP may be able to read the memory; It does mine without additional drivers. Look at it in windows explorer with thumbnails.

    Hi sparrow
I tried that, Hoping that would be the case.
It said that it could not load hardware because it could not find software for that device.

    Turn off auto play.
Right-click on the drive icon for your CD drive, CD recorder, or DVD drive, and select Properties.
Choose the AutoPlay tab, and choose the desired action for each type of CD. For example, choose Music CD, then click Select an action to perform, then select Take no action.

Now try to explore the cd to read the contents. If you can read the contents, then copy the files.

Providing the crack is smooth on both edges, you could wet a tissue in warm water and use some toothpaste to polish the whole disc, paying particular attention to the cracked area. Use another tissue to clean away any toothpaste whilst holding the disc under warm water.
Ensure both sides of the disc are dry before puting it back into the drive.

Try the disc in another CD that may have better error correction, to allow it to be read.

I would recommend that you promptly dispose of the cd in the nearest garbage can. Because of the high speeds they are spun at they can litterly explode in the drive. I've seen this once (on somebody elses computer) and the result wasn't at all good for the drive it was in. Try to get a replacement or download the software if you need it. Exploding CDs
