    Hey all,

I noticed that my system has been acting sluggishly for about the past week or two... When I open up Task Manager, it says that my CPU Usage is 100%, which would explain the problem. I've never had this problem before and would like to know what is causing the problem and how to fix it.

My system is a P3-1000, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD (6GB free), ATI AIW 8500. I updated my video drivers about the time that this started happening but I have since removed these video drivers and installed the older version to see if that would help. It didnt. I also installed the KLite Codec Pack around when the problems happened. I have since removed this too,.

    HELP!
    Thanks

    Hello Soccerguy,

In TM's process tab, what are the individual process usages?

    Regards - Charles

Did you mail that screenshot to Newt as he requested?

Search the XP forum (advanced search) for 100% in thread titles - about half a dozen threads on this.

---I'm taking a leap in logic and assumption.---
klite codec pack? Does this mean that you dabble in file sharing, p2p, divx, kazza, etc.. or such? You may already be aware that much of this involves risks, specifically: possible virus, trojan, adware/malware risks and vulnerabilities, coupled with a known problem with corrupted or incomplete downloads that may be in progress that may be stuck (side effect: cpu uses 100%). Hence, the interest in what you have showing as a running task or service.

May I strongly suggest you follow up on this issue and do as suggested. It's better to be safe then sorry by allowing any critters, you may have set loose, continue to run amuck.

    -----------
Hmmmm...As a sidenote, I see you've been experimenting in codec packs. I wonder if this could possibly tie in with your recent wmp problem? How are you coming along on that by the way? (address this in the other post you have active).

    Replying

    Hey all,

I solved the problem w/ my codec issues - I deleted the codec that wasn't compatible w/ WMP10 and everything started working properly.

Regarding the CPU 100% Usage...I ran AdAware and TrendMicro AV and they both didnt find anythign wrong with my system.. I uninstalled the KLite codec pack. What tests, applications, etc can I run and what things can I do to fix this. This CPU problem is very annoying.

    Thx
