CPU Upgrade options - Gateway 500X

    Hello,
    I own a Gateway 500X computer and have been making upgrades to memory and other hardware. I now would like to upgrade my CPU. The motherboard is a Yorktown 2517505 and is currently running with a 2.4 CPU. What I would like to know is, will the motherboard support a P4-3.06GHZ 512K L2 Cache 533MHZ FSB 478 pin processor with Hyper thread technology? Thanks

    If the board is socket 478, it will; however, if the original processor is also a P4, with such a small difference in the speed of the processors, you'll be hard pressed to detect much difference in performance.

    You might knock three or four seconds off a thirty-second operation.
