    Hi everyone,

I set up a testing environment at home by following Microsoft's guide.
There are two domains one is called "contoso.com ", and the other is called "nwtraders.com ". Both PCs installed AD and became DC. For contoso.com PC, I named server01, and for nwtraders.com PC, I named server02.
    Server01 IP: 192.168.0.1 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Server02 IP: 192.168.0.2 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    There is my question.
From "nwtraders" domain, I could see other workgroups in my network, other PCs, and server02 itself but I could NOT see "contoso" domain and server01 machine.
From "contoso" domain, I could NOT see other workgroups, PCs, nwtraders domain, and even server01 itself.
Is that because DNS problem or something else ? If anyone knows the reason, please help me out......:(

No. DNS is not the issue. Rather it is Active Directory and permissions. Basically, if you are in one AD Domain you do not have rights to access another AD domain unless you have set up a trust between the two domains. As you do not have rights to the other domain, Network Neighbourhood hides it from you.

Here is a starting point for information on Trusts.

Now I can see all of them

    Hi Reggie,

I looked someone's previous post, I guess I found the solution.
I went to TCP/IP's Advanced option, and selected default NetBISO option.
After that, I'm able to see all of my PCs in both domains and other workgroups. Do you have any idea why after I selected this option then the problem fixed ? Thank you to provide the information link.

It seems to me that your results show that I was wrong in my first response. It wasn't Network Neighbourhood hiding the other computers, but rather the AD/DNS system. You were using DNS alone for name resolution and DNS was only giving Network Neighbourhood the local (to your AD) computers.

DNS names include the domain name. NetBIOS names are single names. So for mycomputer.domain.com, the NetBIOS name is mycomputer. So simple NetBIOS name resolution is blind to the domain.

When you use NetBIOS it appears that you are bypassing the control the AD/DNS system has and therefore all computers are shown.
