    Hi everyone,

A friend dropped off her PC because she said it had the Sasser virus. Well, I think it is something else. Its a SONY VAIO w/ XP Pro, less than a year old. The machine does not reboot in 60 or 90 secs like the effects of sasser, but after about 5 mins after a cold boot it justs locks up. Can't ctrl alt del, no mouse, no keyboard. Can only turn it off. I keep getting errors asking if I would like to send to MS. You know the kind.

She uses a dialup ISP and I can't get on the Internet to download any relief. I have installed my ISP software for dialup, but can't get connected before the big freeze.

I have downloaded a few programs from AVG and AVAST for stand alone help, but haven't had a chance to run them yet. Anyone out there familiar with a virus that just locks things up? It could save me some time and headaches.

Thanks all in advance. I can always count on someone out there. :D

Have you gone through msconfig and unchecked all unneccessary apps from loading at start up to see if that helps?
Take a look through the events viewer for any hints?
Looked through task manager to see what's running?
