If I right click a jpeg or bmp file I get the context menu which all the sudden started displaying a window inside of it that says "could not paint a picture for "filename.jpg "! ( "filename" of course is the name of the file I right clicked.

If I click on the box, Windows Picture and Fax viewer opens up and displays the picture.

Anybody have any idea what's happened here? And how I can fix, or get rid of?

Here is a screenshot of what happens when I right click a graphic file.

You can zoom on the page that opens or download the file and view it that way.

What choices do you have with Open With?

It might sound to me like you have some sort of third party "picture painting" software installed.

It sounds like a file "association" problem. Many time a newly installed program will change the file associations to favor itself. You can easily change them back.

Right-click a file of the type in question and choose "Open With." Ignore the suggested programs and click the Browse button shown. Migrate to your program of choice for this type of file and select it. Then tag the box that says "Always use this program to open files of this type." OK out. Next time you click one of those files, the program you bonded it to will open it.

The choices I have for Open With are: (listed in order displayed)
    Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
    PictureViewer (has QuickTime logo)
    Paint
    Internet Explorer
    iTunes
    Adobe Acrobat 6.0
    Microsoft Office Picture Manager

I'm not having a file open problem, just keeps displaying that box when I right click.
I tried Choose Program and chose Microsoft Picture and Fax Viewer and selected Always...but the Could not paint box still shows up.
