For reliability, I use a 'previous' PC with a previous version of Windows, and a 'later' PC with a later version of Windows. In January 2009, I bought a Compaq desktop with Vista, to operate as 'later', and I kept an Asus PC with Win2KPro as 'previous'. Connected both PCs to router and immediately copied \Workfiles from 'previous' to 'later' with no problems. However, to access \Workfiles on 'later' from 'previous', has taken 18 months struggle. A big obstacle has been the weird wording "Enter the object names to select" (see below). Problem now resolved thus (1) LOGON at 'later'. (2) Enable password-protected sharing on 'later'. (3)Take ownership of \Workfiles on 'later' in own username (4) Create a password account on 'later' for 'Previoususer' (5) Set permission for 'Previoususer' to access \Workfiles on 'later' thus:==> Rightclick(Workfiles) => Properties => Sharing => Advanced sharing => Permissions => Share Permissions => Add => Enter the object names to select => type 'Previoususer' => ok => Apply => ok => ok => Close (6) LOGON at \\'previous' (7) Explore to locate \Workfiles on \\'later' and double-click for access (8) Enter name as 'Previoususer' with password. Click 'Enter' and (hopefully) one can now access \\'later'\C:\Workfiles from 'previous'.
