    Avast boot scan says I have two corrupted .cab files.

    12/24/2010 01:53
    Scan of all local drives

    File C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\d27c2900aa2705e008389ddae7c985e9\BIT1.tmp|>umdf.exe|>spuninst.exe Error 42127 {CAB archive is corrupted.}

    File C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\d27c2900aa2705e008389ddae7c985e9\BIT1.tmp|>umdf.exe Error 42127 {CAB archive is corrupted.}

    Is it possible to repair these?

    I tried SFC /scannow tool, but nothing changed.

    Merry Christmas all. :)

    These cab files would have been downloaded & used when you installed something on the system. If the system is working fine, don't bother about them.

    Merry Christmas.

    Microsoft Update has been a bit of a problem ever since I installed Office 2007. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and even did a repair of the program, but MS Update still acts a bit slow at times, and sometimes it will stop in the middle of a download for a few minutes.

    I'm not sure, but my notification balloon / updater may be broken as well.

    Office 2007 works fine, as does most everything else.

    Try deleting these directory. If something needs them, it would be downloaded again.

    I succeeded in deleting the file, but I left the folder in place. Belarc Advisor says everything is well, and MS Update cannot find anything missing either.

    Should I run SFC again?

    No need.

    You can delete the folders too.

    Folder is deleted.

    I am still concerned about security update notifications. I'll make a note to check for them on 1-11-11 and see if the yellow balloon pops up.

    I thought about that, but I can't be sure my problem is completely resolved until after 1-11-11.

    Regards.

    Your problem is solved ;)

    This has nothing to do with Windows Update (in so far that it was just the 'cleanup' step of an update that 'failed').

    And as the instructions read:

    Well, speak of the devil. :)

    I just had a balloon notification to pop up this morning. :D

    Everything seems to be working as I had hoped for, so I will mark it as resolved.
