I have installed NCH's TRx telephone recording software, http://www.nch.com.au/trx/index.html

    Results when using Trillium's REC-ADPT-LC, http://www.trillium.com.au/modules/mastop_publish/?tac=4#2 ,
were disappointing (too great a difference in transmitted and received audio levels), so I more or less abandoned it.

Propaganda for a more recent adaptor, the REC-ADPT-USB-LC, http://www.trillium.com.au/modules/mastop_publish/?tac=4#4 says that its a.l.c. balances send and receive levels, so I bought one.

I don't remember my settings when I had the limited success with the other adapter, but I can't get the system to record at all now.

The adaptor's instructions say to select the system sound card as the default device.

I should like to know what my default sound card is.

The PC's motherboard is a First International Computer, Inc. AM39L PCB 0.x.

Belarc Advisor tells me that under Multimedia I have:

    CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device
    Standard Game Port
    Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)

My guess is the first item.

The software allows me to independently select Record and Play devices from/through:

    C-Media Wave Device
    Total Recorder
    Modem #0 Line Playback
    Vinyl'97 Audio (Wave)
    USB Audio Device

I am guessing the first item again.

So, what should be the correct choices for the above?

And/or what else may I be doing wrong?

Any guidance will be gratefully appreciated.

    I'm afraid that doesn't help.

According to the motherboard manual, the board has VIA AC-97 audio controller. Choose Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM) as your device.

There seems to be a ****-up in Trillium's instructions.

I've selected the C-Media Wave Device for playback and the USB Audio Device for recording and it works.
Trillium have been asked to comment.

By the way rsinfo, selecting the Vinyl AC'97 Codec doesn't work, and it doesn't allow audio out from my PC.

I shall leave this thread open a while longer, at least until Trillium have replied.

The first and third asterisks started life as the letter 'c'.

Trillium said that the USB Audio Device should be selected for recording - as I found out.

Oh, the Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM) is software, not an "Audio Device ".

Why it appears in the list is beyond me.
