I am looking for a new email package since my browser (Netscape 8) does not include one. I have 5 mail accounts and about 10 mailing lists which are in N.S. 7.2 and would like to keep as close to the Netscape mail format as possible with the ability to import my profile, address books, lists, and mail.

WPMail seems to have all these ability, but over the years I have conclude that the sales promotion writers can mix fiction with facts.

Has any one used WPMail and, if so, what are you views on it?

    Cal E,

Have you looked at Thunderbird? I switched from Netscape to Thunderbird a while back and they are very similiar.

    Sort of

I had glanced at the page you provided the link to and was considering it. My only concern was can it do the items I was looking for in my entry.

I used to do hardware repairs for 40 years, but software has advanced an awful lot since my company went bust and I had to retire 3 years ago. And software was a weaker part of my knowhow. At work a special group of peopel did all the software so we'd all have the same things on each PC (except of course the high level folks who made but never followed the rules).

My reason for considering WPMail is that I have WP, know it, find it reliable, and it isn't MS owned. And as a WP owner, I can get it for $29 for a limited time.

I'd love to hear how you rate TB and how reliable a switch would be.

    Cal,

I found it very easy to switch over to Thunderbird from Netscape. During the install process, you have the option to transfer over what you want. You can also transfer over your information after the install. The things that can transfer over are your Address Books, Mail, and Settings. I don't work with any mailing lists, so I can't help there. You can, however, have as many different address books as you want. There are some extensions available for Thunderbird. Maybe there is one that will handle mailing lists, if it isn't already included.

I find that Thunderbird is very similar to my old Netscape program. I transferred all my information over after using Thunderbird for a few days. The transfer was trouble free. If I remember right, I did have to export my address book in LDIF and then import to Thunderbird. Not a big deal though. Thunderbird is very stable. I run 4 different profiles without any problems. If you want, there is also a way to have all email addresses come up together so that you can manage them at one time. I prefer to have them separate. I really like Thunderbird and would recommend it anyone. Give it a try, I think you will like it. You can run Thunderbird and Netscape together with no problems.

I hope that helps a little.

    Mike

    Thunderbird 1.0.6

Have 2 mailing lists. Combined they contain 25 email address.
Thunderbird manages them fine. They auto-transferred from Mozilla Suite.
Should transfer from N7.2, if not they are simple to re-create in Thunderbird.
The last Netscape I used was 6.?? something. Went to Mozilla Suite, then to Thunderbird. The interfaces for all 3 are very similar.
    Suggestion ...
Leave N7.2 on, set as default. Install Thunderbird, change settings to NOT auto download messages and LEAVE messages on server. Then just use Thunderbird for awhile (click on Get Mail) to view and work with your email. Use N7.2 once or more a day to get your mail (again) and also removes it from the server. When you feel comfortable, reverse the settings. You can eventually remove N7.2, or leave it on. Will coexist with Thunderbird.
