I have an IBM aptiva and I would like to copy some things off of the hard drive to a CD rom, first why does my burner which was on drive d now say 02012-1716 (d:] Why and where did the numbers come from? I have a genealogy program, and can I copy the complete disk to the cd. How do I copy other programs from c drive to cd? Do I have to give a path to the program I want and how do I find the path?
    Sorry for being so dumb.
    Thank You.

    Hi Woody97

Did you purchase or recieve the cd burner new? If so then you should have gotten software with it that allows you to easily copy from your hd to cd, from cd to cd, etc.

If you don't have the software you can probably search google for some cd burning software and get it to work with your computer.

Have no idea where the number came from. Where did they show up at?

From a recent Windows Help-Net Newsletter freeware CD/DVD burning software -

    http://www.deepburner.com/

The number now showing on your D drive is probably the volume name of the disk in the drive - if there is one or the the last volume name has hung in there.

reply about copying hard drive to CD

Why do I get a prompt saying you do not have permission to open this file. What does that mean?
