    Hello all!

Now I need some help from the real Geeks to understand what happens when I try the below.

Using the Ghost Boot Disk Wizard, I have created a set of Ghost Boot Disks.

If I, in Windows Explorer, make direct copies from floppy to floppy, the new ones works fine.

To be able to make new copies, without having Ghost installed on the system and without the GBDs to hand, I copied the GBDs to a folder on my harddrive.

When I copy the GBDs back to floppies, they can´t boot the computer, the message is "remove non system disk ...... ".

    Why ...... ...... ?

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

    MBR

Track 0 has a area where a pointer is used to redirect to IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS as well as the shell interpreter such as COMMAND.COM . Just copying these files to a floppy will not make it bootable because the pointer does not direct the system to read them first.

If you were to use a program to make an exact image of the floppies those images could be stored on your HDD. The image file presever the exact track/sector location of each file that goes on the floppy.

Supposedly WinImage can do this, but that is not a program I have tried personnaly.

Same thing applies to CD's - the El Torito boot sector must be located in the proper location and contain the proper pointer.

    Hi Profgab101,
    thanks for Your prompt reply!

I now see what´s the problem and I should have been able to figure it out myself ...... ...... since I´m aware of the importance of the boot track when it concerns Ghost Images and Clones!

I have just deleted my nice and tidy little folder with BootDisks, not only Ghost but WinME and Win98SE.

We learn as long as we live, don´t we!

    Thanks again,
    Christer

Its more often a matter of overlooking the obvious. We forget the things we allready know, and go searching for a more complicated answer to our simple problem.

    Happens all the time.
