I am using Windows XP. I recently purchased a Western Digital 120 Gig USB external hard drive. My intention is to back up the drives here on my machine and then go back and weed out a lot of stuff that is consuming a lot of space. My hard drive is getting full , Some of the stuff is not essential, but I want to keep it if needed. What would be the easiest way to accomplish this plan?

Having just dealt with a similar problem, I think a far better (though admittedly more expensive) solution would be to buy a copy of PowerQuest's Drive Image 2002, available on PriceWatch.com for $28, including shipping.

DI is highly flexible, with one of its best features being the ability to extract individual files from backups, using the included Image Explorer.

Thanks all. I solved the problem. I opened the new USB drive on my second computer. It had USB2 in it. Then I opened the other computer's hard drive through my network, reduced both pages so that I could have them side by side and just dragged and dropped everything where I wanted it to go. I was very fast. Thanks:)
