My Dell Dimension XPS T 700r died suddenly. It had a 30 GB Ultra ATA HD with Mozilla Firefox as my browser. My other computer is a Dell Optiplx 740 with an 80GB SATA HD. My ATA drive has all my bookmarks in it. How do I get to Firefox in order to copy them from the ATA HD to a flash drive and then to my SATA HD?
The 740 PSU does not have a plug for an ATA HD otherwise I'd just substitute it for the SATA.
Both systems were using XP Pro.
    Thanks, Dennis

To help get you started - you'll have to take the hard drive out of the dead computer and hook it up to a working machine or an external enclosure.

I have removed the ATA HD from the dead computer. I do have the capability of copying my files to another HD through a SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 adapter. How do I get to the firefox bookmarks so I can convert them to HDMI file and copy them? When I go to programs in the HD under Mozilla, I don't find anything regarding the bookmarks. My working computer, as previously related, has a SATA plug and no ATA (IDE) connector. If it did, I would swap the HDs, open Mozilla, convert the bookmarks to an HDMI file and copy it to a flash drive.

    Look in the:
    X:\Users\WindowsUsername\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
folder for another folder with ".default" in the name, such as
    0x184att.default

    Notes:
    • Replace the X: with drive letter your computer has assigned to your USB-attached IDE drive.
    • Replace the WindowsUsername with the Windows username that was used on the USB-attached IDE drive.
    • The 0x184att part of that .default folder name varies.

After you retrieve your Firefox bookmarks per SpywareDr.s suggestions, be sure to back them up either as a json or HTML file on a USB drive or some other external media.

This can be accomplished by clicking on the bookmarks link at the top left of a Firefox web page and then click on Show All Bookmarks and you will see an import / export option at the top of another page. I prefer the HTML option, but either will work.

When you were booting the computer from that IDE hard drive, what was the Windows user name you used?

For example, mine was "SpywareDr" (see attached):

under docs and settings I have All Users and Dennis. Other than those, I don't understand what a windowsusername is. I just plug the drive in and it shows on windows explorer as drive J.
I guess I should ask how I should be looking for that string. I'm using Windows Explorer to view my drive.

I'm using win8. How do you paste the string into win explorer? After Dennis there is no AppData appearing. I pasted the string into explorer and it came back no items match your search.

Came up with a string of bookmark dates. This is strange. I was able to type everything in the string until I got to profiles and could go no further. Upon clicking on profiles I got to bookmark profiles and I was finally able to get my bookmarks on my browser but I can't make an export/import HTML file. I can save the list to my bookmarks. At least I have the bookmarks. Thanks for the assistance and your time. I'll mark this as resolved.
    Thanks again.

Come to think of it, I believe Firefox creates its own json backup from time to time. Maybe that's why you saw a string of bookmark dates.

Wouldn't Dennis have to unhide this folder before he could navigate to it?

I keep forgetting about hidden files. What is the purpose for hiding them, in the first place? I know there is a procedure to show hidden files but it escapes me at present.
