    Hello folks,
Been a while. I thought this had been answered before but after doing some searching I only came up with logging on to windows. What I'm looking for is a way to extract your log-in and password from cookies when you go to a site that requires registration and has auto log-in. Is there a way to do this or do I need to look somewhere else?. Occasionally I misplace my passwords and some sites have taken a week or more to respond to a password reset by e-mail. Most respond immediately. I thought this might be encoded in the cookies.

    Thanks for any help,
    dutch

    dutch,

Here's a very good and safe way to keep track of all your passwords (and other personal information)... Roboform. There is a *free* version, as well as a 'Pro' version. Highly recommended. :D

    as for login cookies:

A cookie that contains a username & pasword should be encrypted and the names will be unreadable and undecypherable. This is done when the server sets the cookie. Then, to effect a login, when accessing the site in the same or future sessions, the server reads the cookie and compares it to the encrypted username & password stored in a database on the server. If they match then the session is allowed and if no match then will be prompted to login. No reputable site sets cookies with plain text names & passwords, although the username may be safely set in plain text, the password is not.

    Thanks Tony T.
Good information and that pretty well answers my question. I guess I'll just have to wait until they send me my password or I find my log in sheet with forum passwords.

    Thanks again,
    dutch
