    Hi ASHBURRN,

I use brett's suggested dBpowerAMP, and it is a terrific little program. I just converted about 20 WMA files to WAV.

    Hiya Brett

I've installed the appropriate codecs .. but they keep asking me for the encoders .. for MP3s and stuff.

For WMA ... I used Advanced WMA Workshop. It's not free .. but I like dbPowerAmp as well. I am thinking of it as a replacement to my AudioCatalyst .. if I can find the appropriate encoder .. for FREE. :D

Go back to the site that brett indicated, and download a file called dMC-WMA8-Encoder-CLI.exe.

    luqa,

    There's a newer version now:

    WMA v8

Description: Microsofts latest WMA Encoder - sort of CD Quality @ 64Kbps!

    Download: WMA v8 Codec R3 (2.2MB)

Decodes: Windows Media Audio (.wma, .asf, .wmv)
    Encodes: Windows Media Audio (.wma)

If you read my post carefullly, I said that the program is asking me for the encoders for MP3.

If you didn't know, dbPowerAmp does more than encode WMA files. It encodes MP3s and other stuff. That's why I said I want it to replace my AudioCatalyst.

I've tried the LAME encoder included with dbPowerAmp .. but it doesn't match (no surprise) the FhG encoder with Audio Production Studio.

No worries .. I'm keeping dbPowerAmp on my system .. it'll replace AudioCatalyst in a while .. I'm just about to benchmark the CD-ripping speeds .. although it says that dbPowerAmp is the fastest ripper so far. :)

This is exactly what you posted.

"I've installed the appropriate codecs .. but they keep asking me for the encoders .. for MP3s and stuff. "

Fortunately when I downloaded and installed dbPowerAmp, it worked. So you figure *the wood from the trees*.

Glad to know everything worked first time for you luqa. If everyone was as fortunate as you, we wouldn't need a BBS like this, yes?
