I have a large batch of .wav files. Is there an easy way of converting them to a format that will automatically play on Windows Media Player 11?

*.wav files play in WMP 11 by default - right click > play or Add to WMP playlist. Is this not the case on your computer?

    Hi Pete C.
    I'm bamboozled
I have a folder full of "sound bytes" which I saved ages ago as .wav files
I haven't opened these file for quite a while (can't remember how long) - now I want to use them
They used to work fine when I opened them using old versions WMP or when I used Explorer, went to the folder and "double clicked" on a file.
Now the file opens in WMP11 but there is no sound, just a "click" when it ends.
    Any suggestions??

Have you confirmed that a current .wav file plays in WMP 11? - there are several in the Windows directory, e.g. C:\WINDOWS\Media\Windows XP Logon Sound.wav

If these play OK then thoughts turn to file corruption or possibly a missing codec although I doubt that the form of the .wav file has been changed over the years.

Would be worth seeing if they will play in Media Player Classic
