I have WMP and and Real Player. Is it possible to convert a .cda file on a CD to an MP3 file with either of these programs? I looked at each of these programs and can not see a way to do it. Anyone know how? Thanks.

I have used a freeware program called CDex, you can find it at www.majorgeeks.com. It worked well for me.

Thank you for the information. That looks like the program that I want. When I went to the download page it mentions something called "Win All ". Is that a program I need to run CDex? or does that mean it works with all versions of Windows?

either player will 'rip' audio cds. just choose .mp3 as the encoding method

and now that i think about it ... maybe ... it may be on my system that i have some prog that offers an mp3 plugin (nero?) so ... not entirely sure that .mp3 is avail on either by default or w/o some help

Yes, Win All means it will run on all versions of Windows.

I just used CDex to rip a track of a .cda file and convert it to MP3. It seems to work great and I played it on WMP and Real Player. I can't tell the difference between it and the original and the MP3 files is 13 times smaller than the original.
Again, thank you for the information.

I'm glad it works for you and you are pleased with the results. If you become a serious user, see if the author suggests any ways to help him out. I always stand in awe of these people that offer their excellent products for free.

You can find some great stuff on the 'net :)
