Desperately want to upgrade my two profiles in NS to TB. Any tips or tricks because I do not want to loose anything in the process.

    RJ3301,

You won't lose anything if you back up your Profiles folder before installing Thunderbird. Back up your Netscape Profile folder frequently/daily if you intend to keep Netscape.

Back up the entire Thunderbird folder. See: Profile Folder Locations

When you install Thunderbird, you will get a dialog which will give you a choice for which Profile data to migrate to Thunderbird, as shown below.

Select Netscape, and that's all you need to do, in order to migrate Netscape's Mail to Thunderbird.

    And RJ,
just to cause more trouble, do you mean profiles, or mail accounts.
You cannot import automatically two profiles, but you sure can import the mail accounts.
Just to prove a point, I decided to set up an account in TB, but, did nothing to fin a local directory. I knew where my 7.2 mail was was, and, to make things more interesting I had the NS7.2 profile in a specially created folder. So, I just browse to the location of folder, and selected it for TB. And, it is: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Netscap\Profiles\my7.2username\7.2.slt\Mail\mail.softhome.net

In fact, I have eight accounts in this TB, and not one of them is located its profile.

Sorry, I meant two mail accounts.
Is it a good idea to convert now or is there a better version of TB just around the corner (I thought I heard that somewhere)

    RJ,

If only two Mail Accounts, then you are in business. Simply let the install migrate your Netscape data into Thunderbird.

    One other tip for you:
Before installing Thunderbird, open Netscape, empty your Trash, and compact your folders.

Close Netscape, then from the *.slt folder, delete:
    The entire Cache folder
    history.dat file
    XUL.mfl file

I believe that Thunderbird 1.0.6 is the "around the corner" version is what you were hearing about. It was a security update, and to the best of my knowledge, another update won't be forthcoming until September (if even then). This will be Thunderbird 1.5.
