I am looking for software that will convert cda or wpl audio file to mp3.

I have a file on cd that is a cda file. The same file I saved to windows as a wpl on my computer.

COWON / jetAudio will not convert either.

hopefully free and with no extras added in the software.

    any suggestions appreciated.

yes, I always try google, but joining and posting on a forum like this should be done before going to google.

The reason is that many "free" offers on google are for software that also has additional software like google or yahoo toolbars, and malware that we do not want.

I don't really think I have file extension issue, as this link discusses.

This link says you have to rip the cd to harddrive, which I have just been able to do.

I put the cd with the song file in and this time COWON/JetAudio recognized it. Now I have it as .wav file on my desktop.

but this software did not have the option of saving as .mp3, which is what I need to do.

I disagree. You should perform your own research before posting here. We are here to help but not for answers that can be found by just going to a search engine.

You have the option to install or not to install crapware. You just have to be vigilant at the time of install. If you just keep on clicking "Next" on every prompt, there is very little any of us can do.

Malware is a constant danger when you go online. Use an extension like WOT (Web of Trust) for a little more safety.

    I just installed Format Factory.

It is a bit complicated for me, but I am not a computer guy.

Foobar had a lot more technical insider terms so I assume it is for more advanced users.

I was able to convert the .wav file to .mp3.

I thank rsinfo, PeteC, Russ, and Decapo for their help.

Ok, since you are a staff member, I assume that is the official position of the forum.

Sorry dispatch trophy, but I am not a staff member & the forum has no official position on this - as far as I know.

It was just to let you know how I feel about it.
